Stephanie Gee's Tips for Healthy Hair

"I'm here to celebrate a small transformation - my hair! I have always had a good base when it comes to my hair, but since the age of 17, hair extensions became a thing I could not live without. Since March, I took the opportunity to lean into a more natural look and have seen such a positive change in my hair. Less heat, more brushing, no extensions and plant-based nutrition have all attributed to a healthier and happier head of hair."

Keep reading for my 5 best practices that have transformed my hair!

1. Scalp Health

Healthy hair starts at the scalp. Did you know there is no difference between the skin on our face and the skin on our scalp? Interestingly, we take such good care of our face but we neglect the skin of the scalp. Just like our face, our scalp needs to be exfoliated, hydrated and protected.

I use the Sunday Riley Clean Rinse twice a week and Dr. Sturm's Scalp Serum daily. Clean Rinse is a lactic acid treatment to exfoliate and lift dead skin from the scalp. Apply it 20 minutes before washing and after shampoo it away, your scalp instantly feels like it can breathe! Scalp Serum is an anti-inflammatory serum to hydrate and nourish the skin without leaving a greasy or heavy residue. It dries instantly into the hair, so you can use it on dry or damp hair. After I apply this serum, I give my scalp a little massage for extra TLC.

2. Brush Daily

I learned so much from my live interview with Dianna Cohen, founder of Crown Affair (one of my favorite hair brands!). One of the recommendations Dianna made was to start brushing my hair every night before bed with the Crown Affair No. 001 Brush. I started the ritual that night and haven't looked back since. The Crown Affair brush brings natural oils from root to tip, making our hair strands more nourished and protected. It also feels amazing. I immediately noticed growth from brushing my hair daily! 3. Sleep On A Silk Pillowcase

Not only does it feel so luxurious on the skin, a silk pillowcase will protect your hair fibres for less breakage. The silk is also excellent for our skin to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Healthy Hair Starts In The Gut

I believe in the power of plant-based nutrients to promote beauty from the inside out. Taking the WelleCo Super Elixir Alkalizing Greens mixed with the Super Booster for Skin + Hair + Nails has improved the quality of my hair. It's shinier, and stronger and has definitely contributed to my hair growth. Drinking and/or eating your greens daily makes such a positive change in our cells, both physically and mentally. I cannot stress the importance of this ritual enough. If you're looking for a sign to start taking a wellness supplement, this is it!

5. Less Heat, More Growth

While I appreciate my natural curls, I feel my best when my hair is blown out. Before the pandemic, I was using a hairdryer, straighter and curling iron almost everyday on my hair! Now I aim for 1 hot tool every few days, which is mostly my blow dryer and it's made such a difference. And on the days I need to wash my hair, I do my low bun look and let my natural oils nourish my hair fibres during the day. It's such a good trick!

Most of all, patience is a virtue. I can be very impatient sometimes, but my hair journey has and continues to show me how important consistency is for any long lasting change. I encourage you to try any of the tips I've shared above and let me know how your hair responds! It's all part of the process.
